Isla Espiritu Santo is a UNESCO world heritage site off the coast of La Paz, Mexico. Frequented mostly by local fishermen and occasional day-tripping tourist, this remote and spectacular island is a special place to spend a few days camping and paddling a sea kayak. Most visitors prefer to hire a guide from La Paz though self-guided expeditions are also possible. Days are filled with tooling around into various aqua-colored bays to spot sea turtles and giant rays and gathering the largest scallop shells you’ll find anywhere. Each day ended by watching the sun set on the ocean, cracking a Tecate, and watching the kids play with the hermit grabs. It is a Mexican island adventure unlike any other.
